The latest data on the employment situation in the region last February put the number of unemployed people at 9.462, the lowest figure in a month of February in the last decade, according to the study by the Observatori Marina Alta of CREAMA and PACT'MA.
In this way, the number of job seekers decreased last month by 104 people, compared to January. The unemployment figure remains below 10.000, a psychological barrier that the Marina Alta left behind in May 2022 and has not crossed since then. In addition, the 9.462 job seekers in the last LABORA record are the lowest mark in a month of February since 2008 (7.393 records), before the Great Recession.
On the other hand, the Observatory indicates that for the third consecutive month the growth in the number of Social Security affiliates in the Marina Alta remains almost at the same level. Thus, in the second month of the year there were 58.744 affiliates, 628 more than a month ago (+1,08%).
In the region, this February has withstood the blow of the inflationary crisis better than in other years and, despite the doubts that threaten the economy, it brings together the best historical data for affiliation and job seekers in a month of February. The monthly decrease in the number of job seekers is the lowest in the last seven years (with the exception of 2021, +0,10%), an absolute value of unemployment is reached in February that is lower than any other February.
Regarding the number of Social Security affiliates, after six months of withdrawal we find a month with a positive balance. In February it grew by 628 people, standing at 58.744 affiliated people, which means an increase of 1,08% compared to the previous month. It can be highlighted that this month the seasonality typical of previous months slows down.

By activity, all the schemes experience an increase to a greater or lesser extent in their affiliates with respect to the previous month. The Special Sea Regime grows by 1,89%, 24 more affiliations. The Special Agrarian Regime increases by 1,42%, 5 more affiliations. The General Regime, which in absolute terms is the one that sees its figure increase the most compared to January, increased by 525 affiliations, increasing by 1,39%. The Special Regime for the Self-Employed remains practically the same as the previous month and increases slightly by 0,40%, with 72 more affiliations.
Jobseekers by sex
In the composition of jobseekers by sex, the weight of unemployed men is practically the same as the previous month, 41,53%, 3.930 people, compared to 58,47% of women, 5.592 people, who continue to suffer a higher unemployment.
The decrease in job seekers in the last month has been almost at par, slightly more beneficial for men, around the percentage digit, -1,11%, which is 44 fewer men. That of women has decreased by 1,07% and with a difference of stops compared to the previous month of 60 fewer unemployed women.
Comparing these data with respect to February 2022, there is a general fall and this interannual decrease, in this case and for the first time, is more favorable for women, -12,01% in women compared to -10,68% in men. Thus, approximately the rate of reduction is practically 1 percentage point higher in the case of women, offsetting the high differences that had been occurring month by month on a year-on-year basis. Therefore, the variation in job seekers in its annual comparison reverses this difference in favor of women in the last year.
Unemployment rate
By calculating the unemployment rate, in the Marina Alta, a decrease of 0,26 points is observed, reaching an estimated unemployment rate of 13,87%. The province of Alicante and the Valencian Community also see decreases, but somewhat less, their unemployment rates, staying at 16,84% and 14,36%, respectively.
