The 'Gamba Blanca de Calp' brand will be official: "The shrimp that arrives at our market is especially tasty."

Calp City Council has received official notification that the "Gamba Blanca de Calp" trademark will soon be registered after the end of the appeal period, with no objections filed. This initiative, launched last year by the council with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, aims to distinguish and promote this emblematic product of the Alicante municipality, reinforcing its culinary excellence.

The creation of this brand is part of the initiatives carried out to commemorate the centenary of the Calp Fishermen's Guild, during which various activities were organized to raise awareness of the "White Shrimp of Calp." These included the 1st Conference dedicated to this seafood, held in collaboration with the City Council, as well as the participation of the municipality's three Michelin-starred chefs—Rafa Soler (Audrey's), José Manuel Miguel (Beat), and Andrea Drago (Orobianco)—in the Madrid Fusion competition, where they created dishes featuring this product. Cones of fried white shrimp were also distributed at the Fitur international tourism fair.

The new brand joins the already established "Peix de Calp" brand, created jointly by the City Council, Creama, and the Fishermen's Association to support the fish sold from the port of Calp. The "Gamba Blanca de Calp" brand reinforces this promotional effort, emphasizing the quality of a product of which around 2.000 kilos are unloaded daily at the local fish market and whose versatility makes it ideal for both haute cuisine and home cooking.

The Patron Mayor of the Calp Guild, Paco Catalá, emphasized that "white shrimp is currently the star product of the Calp Guild. It is caught throughout the Mediterranean, but the shrimp that arrives at our fish market is especially tasty due to the combination of grass and rocks on our coast." He also highlighted its natural and healthy nature: "It's a very healthy product because it comes directly from its natural environment, without artificial processes. Both the Guild and the City Council are working to make it known as it deserves, and we also try to involve restaurants so they offer it on their menus because it is a quality product."
