The SGAE Foundation and the Sonafilm Festival reach an agreement to promote Spanish film music

February 06 from 2025 - 10: 49

The headquarters of the SGAE Foundation in Madrid yesterday hosted the meeting between the director of the Marina Alta Film Music Festival (Sonafilm), Javier Gil Pérez, Pedro Mérida, producer of the festival, the president of the SGAE Foundation, Juan José Solana, and the composer and member of the board of the foundation, Darío Palomo. The main objective of the meeting was to establish the bases of an agreement to strengthen the promotion and support of music for audiovisuals within the Sonafilm programming.

This agreement comes at a time when the festival has consolidated its commitment to Spanish film music, organizing concerts with some of the most renowned composers on the national scene. Among the prominent names who have already participated in the festival are Arnau Bataller (nominated for the 2025 Goya Awards), Luis Ivars, Vanessa Garde, Iván Martínez Lacámara, Manel Santisteban, Diego Navarro, Paula Olaz, Vicente Ortiz Gimeno, Manel Gil-Inglada, Zacarías de la Riva and Darío Palomo himself.

One of the main exponents of this initiative is the cycle of symphonic concerts "Made in Spain", performed by the Universal Symphony Orchestra. The third edition of this event will take place in August at the Auditorium of the Calp House of Culture and will include the participation of five new national composers. In addition, the masterclasses given by these musicians in the Sala l'Androna in Balearia have reinforced the festival's commitment to the training and dissemination of film music.

A key support for Sonafilm

The support of the SGAE Foundation represents an important boost for Sonafilm, consolidating it as a benchmark in the promotion of Spanish film music. In addition to a possible financial investment, the agreement contemplates the creation of synergies that will contribute to the growth of the festival and its programming.

The director of Sonafilm has expressed his satisfaction with the agreement: “This agreement with the SGAE Foundation will mark a turning point for the festival. Not only is a financial investment being proposed, but work will also be done on creating initiatives that will allow for significant growth of the event. We have offered Sonafilm as a platform for developing cultural activities within the field of audiovisual music, and the Foundation's commitment is firm. Its president, Juan José Solana, already showed his support at the last edition of the festival, and today he has reaffirmed his commitment to us.”
