OPINION | Commit Teulada and Moraira
Following the published news announcing more than 12 million euros in water investments for other municipalities, from Compromís per Teulada i Moraira we want to express our deep indignation at the lack of commitment of the PP government of the Alicante Provincial Council with our municipality and regret the complicit silence of the municipal government of Raul Llobell.
Last summer, Teulada i Moraira suffered the most serious water crisis in recent years, leaving the municipality without suitable water for more than 40 days, a situation that seriously affected families, businesses and daily life. Despite this critical situation, and despite the promises of the President of the Provincial Council, Toni Pérez, the PP government's budget to prevent us from running out of water again this summer is 0 euros.
What's more, it seems that Toni Pérez is already assuming that the crisis will be repeated, since, for the first time in history, he has budgeted a subsidy of 40.000 euros for the purchase of water in tankers for the municipalities. This ridiculous amount only shows that the PP has no intention of solving the problem in a structural and realistic way, limiting itself to applying patches.
The news also confirms that the Provincial Council has allocated funds to Benissa, Calp, Dénia, Xàbia, Orba and Pego for improvements in water supply and sanitation, while Teulada i Moraira is, once again, marginalised. All this despite the fact that the overall budget of the Provincial Council has increased by 13,3% compared to the previous year, reaching 334,6 million euros, of which 27,6 million are allocated to actions related to water management.
Furthermore, Compromís would like to remind you that the Valencian Generalitat, led by Carlos Mazón, also from the Popular Party, has not kept its promises either. The 8 million euros promised for the extension of the Teulada i Moraira wastewater treatment plant are neither here nor expected. Another example of how the PP used empty announcements and newspaper headlines to look good and win applause, but the facts are conspicuous by their absence.
The lack of planning, structural solutions and the arrival of promised resources is compounded by the inaction of the local government of Teulada i Moraira. With only a few months to go until the summer of 2025, there are only projects, but none of them have materialised.
We at Compromís denounce this alarming neglect and disdain towards Teulada i Moraira. A disdain that we are sure they would not dare to show towards other municipalities that have been more critical of the management of the Popular Party. We cannot allow our neighbours to experience a crisis like last year again.
