The DGT changes the fine notification system: how it will be from now on

November 02 from 2022 - 11: 07

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) confirmed last summer that it would stop issuing paper notifications as of November 1, 2022. This change represents an advance in digitalization, since from now on the fines will arrive in digital format . However, the issuance modification will not affect everyone.

The new notification of fines

From Tuesday, November 1, the entity will notify the sanctions exclusively electronically through the Electronic Road Address (DEV) application. It is a kind of digital mailbox in which, to receive notifications, it will be necessary to register to keep up to date with DGT notices.

To register in the system, a valid digital certificate will be necessary, as well as providing an email and a mobile phone where you can receive notifications. The DGT informs that “in case of not registering, an electronic road address will be assigned ex officio, where the pertinent notifications will be made. Remember that if you do not notify the DGT of an email or mobile phone for this purpose, you will not receive notices of the availability of notifications of traffic fines.

The entity warns that the DEV subscription data will be accessible to the Administrations with competences in traffic matters, which will notify electronically on their own notification platforms. For this reason, the organizations that have not yet been incorporated into the new electronic mailbox will continue to send sanction notifications by post.

The DEV notices will be complemented with an email or an SMS, depending on what each registrant decides.

Who does the change in the DGT affect?

The new way of communicating warnings and sanctions will not be mandatory for everyone. Specifically affects legal persons, not regular drivers. That is, it applies to companies, entities, corporations, associations or foundations with or without profit.

Therefore, for the rest of the people, the physical ones, registration in the system is voluntary. So that, for these, the notifications and sanctions will continue to arrive through ordinary postal mail.
