To promote the use of renewable energies, which will also benefit the public's pockets, the Gata de Gorgos City Council has promoted the creation of a local energy community. During the next week they will present the project and make it known publicly to the neighbors.
In addition, informative workshops will be given in which the various doubts and queries that citizens have will be answered. The dates of the workshops to present the initiative are:
- Tuesday, May 24 at 19:00 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the Integrated Social Center (CSI) the project will be presented.
- June 7 at 19:00 p.m., workshop on “Co-creation of the Local Energy Community”.
- June 21 at 19:00 p.m., workshop “Constituïm la comunitat energètica”.
In the first informative session, the technicians will present what a CEL consists of, what are the derived benefits (environmental, economic, etc.), both for the domestic economy and for the community. In the following sessions they will answer all the doubts and questions raised by the attendees and will explain how to create a CEL, as well as different legal forms, among other topics.
The Gata City Council has launched this ambitious project with the collaboration of the company Sapiens Energía, leader in the Valencian Community in the management of projects to create local energy communities and in the implementation and management of energy-producing technology.
Josep Francesc Signes, Mayor of Gata, is pleased to undertake this process of collaboration and citizen participation “which drives us to continue working to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and which, moreover, will be very beneficial for the families that join. In fact, the benefits of the Gata de Gorgos installation will reduce the electricity supply bill of the Institute".
Juan Sacri, president of Sapiens Energía, highlights the efficiency of the project and the impact on the environment: "It is important that citizens know that local energy communities represent direct savings of between 10 and 30% on the electricity consumption bill. However, it is even more important that they are aware that this action, added to other similar ones, is essential in the fight against climate change”.
This energy community formula that is presented in Gata de Gorgos boosts the local economy and the use of renewable energy and zero kilometer, that is, it avoids energy losses on the transport route. In addition, shared consumption converts citizens in an active agent in the process since they make decisions in the production, self-consumption and storage of their own energy, with the consequent reduction in costs and savings in the electricity bill.
