The 13th Edition RIURAU Film Festival will take place again this summer in Jesús Pobre, Xàbia and Dénia

May 21 from 2024 - 16: 10

The 13th Edition RIURAU Film Festival will take place again this summer in the towns of Jesús Pobre, Xàbia y Dénia from August 17 to 25. For the first time, the festival concentrates its celebration dates in just over a week.

It will begin with the recordings of the RIURAU EXPRÉSS filming and assembly marathon in Jesús Pobre on Saturday the 17th, continue with the parallel activities and screenings on Monday the 19th, to end with the awards gala in Dénia on Sunday the 25th. The nights Summer films will welcome the growing local audience, loyal to the event and the holiday audience of the Marina Alta and will offer a sample of the best international short films.

There have been nearly 2.400 short films - 600 were received only for the Dance Film section -, coming from eighty countries, those registered in the RRFF on three international platforms, Movibeta, Festhome and Filmfreeway. Twelve selectors have undertaken the extensive and delicate task of reviewing and rating the films until the screening time objective has been achieved with the final nomination of 43 shorts for seven screening blocks in six days.

The fact that the festival is exclusively in-person requires a rigorous and difficult selection exercise. It is worth highlighting two groups of high quality: that of Iranian short films, a cinema committed to the social reality and the situation of women in their country, and that of Spanish short films, which reflect the growing interest and commitment of Spanish filmmakers to this format, capable of telling consistent stories in a maximum of 20 minutes, as required by the bases.

The El Nostre Cinema section, inaugurated last year and dedicated to short films linked to the La Marina region, enters the competition in this new edition thanks to the help of €2.000 from the IMPULSA CULTURA program of the Salom Sabar Foundation, which aims objective to promote the creation and sustainability of cultural and artistic projects in the Marina Alta. The films in this section will be screened on August 25 in a morning session in the Auditorium of the Social Center of Dénia and will be completed with a meeting and a round table in which film professionals linked to this region of Alicante will participate. The objective is to address the state of the local film industry, activate synergies and try to develop a roadmap for the future.

Otherwise, the Baleària company contributes two boat tickets to the Audience Award, which bears its name, for the best short film of the Riurau Express marathon.

RIURAU Film Festival mainly has support from the Valencian Institute of Culture of the Generalitat Valenciana, the Provincial Council of Alicante and the municipalities of Dénia, Xàbia and Jesús Pobre, which also add their collaboration in the organization of the exhibition.
