Eight people, including the former water councilor of Calpe City Council and former CEO of the joint venture Aguas de Calpe, are facing trial for alleged crimes of administrative malfeasance, fraud, and swindling in the awarding and management of the water supply service in the municipality. The former manager of the company and another former CEO are also charged.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the defendants allegedly committed various irregularities in 2004 in the awarding of public water supply services, as well as in the subcontracting of services and works, with the aim of profiting at the cost of serious financial damage to the public coffers.
The Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting prison sentences ranging from six to nine years for the accused.
