Jovi Lozano-Seser claims the potentiality of the short story as a commercial and mass format

The writer Jovi Lozano-Seser is a great defender of stories as a popular and commercial language and although he admits that the novel is the most popular tool for making readers, "one has to claim, as happens in other countries, the potentiality of the short story as a commercial and mass format”.

Precisely, the author won with compilations of stories the Ciudad de València Award in 2011 with 'Últimes existències' and the València Narrative Award from the Institució Alfons el Magnànim in 2019 with 'Pedres que have de ser remogudes'.

His favorite genre is the short story, because "I think it is an area where you can aspire to perfection, which is much more difficult when we talk about novels: a more extensive genre and with more complex structures," he has indicated.

To the students who have participated in the Meeting of Writers of the Valencian Library, he has commented that the theater should be more present within secondary education, as it happens in Europe, and that theatrical texts should be readings reference in more centers. “Theatre, it is read little, and it is a shame because it is a very profitable genre for generations like the current one, the millennials or their disciples. In fact, for people who need dialogue to better digest fiction, theater is an ideal format”.

He also considers that readings in Valencian should receive more attention from the media. "Authors and authors need more platforms to disseminate our work, our work, and thus demonstrate that the quality and quantity of literature in Valencian is an undeniable phenomenon," he assured.

Jovi Lozano-Seser began publishing in 2010 with the work 'Sis contes i una novel·la incerta', an anthology of short stories, a genre that monopolizes his literary production. She has also written plays such as 'F (el llibre de les cares)', in which she participated in the theater direction.

His most recent work, 'Després de maig, abans de l'estiu', which was awarded the Enric Valor Award from the Alicante Provincial Council in 2021, is set in his town, Ondara. “Within literature in Valencian, the landscape, the territory, are absolutely organic characters that condition not only how we speak, but also how we live”, he explained.

He added that the fact that his latest novel took place in his town has been a challenge to “literature places that have never been narrated. I think it is the most valuable message that Enric Valor left us when it comes to remembering how literature has to reflect us as a people and, consequently, pay homage”.
