The Jesús Pobre Social Center will host the premiere of the documentaries The art of the llata y Barxeres, two productions by the independent Marina Alta audiovisual production company Col·lectiu Mirades. The screening will take place next Friday, March 14, at 19:00 PM.
«The art of the tire»
The art of the llata is a 50-minute documentary directed by José Gayà and produced by Pau Soler and Mirades Cooperativa Valenciana. The piece explores the tradition of the llata industry in the municipalities of Gata de Gorgos and Pedreguer, highlighting the art of braiding palm leaves to make baskets, hats, and other everyday objects. This artisanal activity has been key to the local economy for generations.
The documentary tells the story of a group of artisans working to preserve and pass on this ancestral knowledge to new generations, preventing the disappearance of part of the Marina Alta's cultural legacy.
«Barxeres»
Beside The art of the llata, the short fiction film will also be screened Barxeres. This 20-minute work, also directed by Gayà and produced by Soler, transports the viewer to a rural Valencian village in the 40s. Through the story of a family of artisans and farmers, the work offers a traditional portrait of the era and the traditions that have shaped the region's identity.
