May 09 from 2022 - 13: 57

Last weekend, Pego completely filled its streets with the large influx of people who passed through the Volta a Peu a Pego, the Fira del Comerç, the III Vila de Pego Fast Painting Contest, the national Patchwork meeting and the Bomba and Bombón Rice Days.

On Saturday afternoon, the XXXVIII edition of the Volta a Peu a Pego was held, the oldest in the Circuit a Peu Marina Alta, which was attended by more than 1.350 runners of all ages.

The finish line, on Passeig Cervantes, became a party, with hundreds of people enjoying a sporting afternoon in unbeatable weather, in which the Pego Musical Group also participated, as well as members of La Clandestina, who enlivened the competition with notes musicals.

Members of different expeditions participating in the RunDealEU program (Running dir Green Development at Local Level) from Turkey, Portugal and Greece were also present at this event. All of them participated throughout the weekend in activities related to nature and sports, fundamental parts of this international project in which Pego participates.

The sports day gave way and prominence to commerce, culture and tradition on Sunday with the celebration of a new edition of the Fira del Comerç, the III Vila de Pego Fast Painting Contest and the national Patchwork meeting.

From early in the morning Passeig Cervantes and Plaça del Mercat became the nerve centers. In the first point, the merchants moved their businesses to the street to get closer, if possible, to the neighbors. "It is appreciated your predisposition to participate in these events that serve to improve the health of local businesses," says the Councilor for Commerce, Ricardo Sendra.

On Passeig Cervantes they were also accompanied by the Ràdio Pego team, who also moved the studio to the promenade to experience a day of live radio on the street.

They were also accompanied by the artists who participated in the III Vila de Pego Fast Painting Contest. There were a total of 11 participants (from different parts of Spain) who decided to illustrate the festive day on their canvases. Blai Tomàs from Ontinyent received the first prize, while Maite Durà, a resident of Elx, won the second prize.

Evarist Aparisi received the award for best local artist. “We want to congratulate all the participants and thank them for filling the Passeig area with art. We also want to show our gratitude to Maite Alborch for the organization, as well as to all the companies that sponsored the cultural event jointly with the City Council (Artego, Capritx, Enquadres and the Associació de Comerciants de Pego)”, reports Sendra.

Gastronomy

Culinary culture has also been present throughout the weekend in Pego with the celebration of a new edition of the Bomba y Bombón Rice Conference. A contest in which local restaurateurs offered menus where the main ingredient was the cereal that grows in the Marjal. "We encourage hoteliers to continue offering their dishes with rice as the star protagonist to continue increasing the importance of our bomb and chocolate in gastronomy," says the mayor of Commerce.
