The birth of Gata dates back to the Islamic era, around the year 1023, when Gata was a Muslim farm linked to the king of Dénia, Abu Mujahid. In the year 1075, about 300 inhabitants lived in Gata, which remained at around 60 due to a cholera epidemic. The king of Dénia, to promote this settlement, installed a school of ceramic art. The school became so popular that in 1180 Gata already had about 600 inhabitants.
In 1248, Gata was the scene of a great combat between the Christian troops of Jaume I and the Muslim leader Al-Azraq, because the Christians had breached the agreements of mutual respect and coexistence with the Muslims. The Christian troops, reinforced by the bishop of Tortosa and the Lord of Hijar made Al-Azraq have to flee. Then Jaume I donated the town of Gata to the Aragonese nobleman Gaspar de Hijar. The Lords of Hijar had Gata for several generations: the last Lord of Gata was the ninth Duke of Hijar. In 1609, when the Muslims were expelled from Spain, 40% of the inhabitants of Gata converted to Christianity. The Señorío de Gata passed to the Count of Almodóvar in 1697.
Hello,
The first Andrada arrived in Gata était Juan Andrada, born of Burguillos, hidalgo, who was married to Angela de Ixer (ou de Hijar, c'est le meme nom), of the family of seigneurs of Gata. Mais comme il n'y a plus aucun registre paroissial de Gata, c'est difficile de trouver qui était exactly cette Angela. Il semble y avoir eu plusieurs Angela Dixer à la même époque. Juan Andrada is now a bailli and attorney general of Gata. You will find more explanations about the family in the free online «Notes on Rafel Andrada, presumed author of the «Sermo de la invencio de la Creu» by Joan Giner Monfort (pages 7 to 21). Mon mari descended from one Isabel Andrada, fille de Blay or d'Antoni Andrada Dixer. Sans registres, impossible to know with certainty, et impossible to find l'acte de baptême de Vincent Andrada. Well cordially. Marie Isabelle FEMALE
Hello,
Je viens de découvrir dans le vieux cadre d'une peinture qui a toujours été dans ma famille (un portrait de grand-père) cache sous la peinture le texte suivant : «En souvenir de mon père Vincent Andrada, né à Gatta, province d 'Alicante on January 18, 1846, décédé in El Affroun département d'Alger, on October 2, 1911, son of Count Ignace D'Andrada, maire de Gatta in 1826, emigrated to Coléa, département d'Alger in 1866,, décédé en cette ville.” Signed Michel Andrada fils et petit-fils.
Mon grand-père se prénommait Michel (born in 1889 in El Affroun, son père était Vincent), (et moi-aussi d'ailleurs !)
Andrada is my family name
Pouvez-vous m'éclairer sur ce Comte Ignace D'Andrada ?
cordially
Michel
