OPINION Let's defend Calpe
VETO TO DEFEND US IN AGUAS DE CALPE
As a political party with representation in plenary, whether we govern or not, we can request the inclusion of a representative in the Calpe water council, in order to exercise control and supervision of the local government to which we are entitled. In addition, with our participation, we would try to improve the service provided, make it cheaper and more effective. In short, trying to make everything that happens there more transparent.
The statutes of said public-private company determine that it is the plenary session, the 21 councilors, who will propose the public part to the members of the council that represent the city council. There is legally no veto or limitation. The Calpe town hall has a 40% stake in this mixed company created together with other companies to assume local responsibility for the water cycle. The council, as a partner, has the right to participate in the council. Its members are proposed by the plenary.
Unfortunately, the 3 parties that govern, Somos Calpe, Psoe and Compromis, did not accept our petition in the plenary session. Curiously, 4 years ago, Psoe and Compromis, (when they were part of the opposition) did consider it necessary for the opposition parties to be part of this business. At that time, it was Ana Sala and the PP who vetoed the existing opposition. How things change.
Apparently, the private part of this company does not look favorably on Defendamos Calpe wanting to be present on the council. Sadly, democracy and transparency are foreign concepts to those responsible for the private part of this company. They must assume that they are managing a public service transferred for their exploitation and everything, income, assets, benefits, come from each and every one of the Calpinos who religiously pay their water rate without any alternative, since the service, as is logical, is granted exclusively.
The Calpinos elect their representatives in the elections and therefore in the plenary session. We should be able to materialize our right to be part of this company.
What happens in that mysterious council of waters in Calpe so that we are prevented from being there? Are the supposedly independent government councilors puppets of the private party?
