In its origins, it consisted of a long parade through the streets of the town, where several stages were distributed with a musical and dance show on each one. Next you have an index with all the points that we are going to deal with.
When is

The Festival d'Arts Cèniques had its first edition in 2020 and due to the coronavirus pandemic, it could not be held in 2021. In 2022 the health situation on the official carnival day prevented its development, but it was finally held at the end of April. This 2025, the Pego City Council has been forced to cancel the Festival due to rain.

How the Festival d'Arts Cèniques de Pego came about
The Festival d'Arts Cèniques is a relatively new show that Pego has begun to celebrate as a way to revitalize its legendary Carnestoltes. The celebration proposal began to take shape in 2019 and was implemented for the first time in 2020.
Atzaïla associació cultural de Pego turned to the ingenuity of local choreographer and dancer Marc Pons to develop the project proposal. Once everything was designed, the design of the festival was presented to the City Council with the aim of recovering the festive and participatory essence of the Pegolí Carnival.
Despite being a well-known celebration, the Carnestoltes had become devalued over the years until it was associated with a large nocturnal bottle party that gave a bad image to the municipality. The new proposal became the Festival d'Arts Cèniques that involves children and adults and offers a schedule for all types of audiences.
What is
The event organisers prepare a parade around a central theme, carried out by more than 200 people, including actors, dancers and musicians. The show consists of several dance groups and live music, encouraging the public to join in. In addition, the display houses three main floats.
Once the parade is over, the event culminates with a grand show on the stage of the Plaça Antic Regne in Valencia, where all the participants in the parade offer a joint performance.
With this concept, Pego has managed to get closer to the origin of Carnestoltes, which was characterized by the great display of costumes, masks and very elaborate makeup. The first Festival d'Arts Escèniques had a circus theme, the second Hollywood theme, in 2023 it was about traveling around the world, in 2024 it was about children's stories and this 2025 it will be a journey through a girl's dreams through different magical worlds.
