The end of the use of the mask already has a date

January 26 from 2023 - 10: 15

This is the last measure in force after the coronavirus pandemic in Spain. The mask is still mandatory on public transport and in health establishments, although its end could be closer.

Yesterday the news broke that Fernando Simón, director of the Health Alerts and Emergencies Coordination Center of the Ministry of Health, had announced that the end of the use of masks on public transport I would arrive in Spain in one or two weeks.

However, as it is a royal decree, the decision must first go through the Council of Ministers. And, previously, this fact must be recommended by the Alert Report of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System, made up of technicians, experts and the various autonomous communities.

Today, the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, has announced that she will take the proposal to the Council on February 7, so the decree would enter into force as of the following day, the 8 of February of 2023. To do this, the minister must first convene an Interterritorial Council to "discuss it with the experts."

After the last wave of COVID cases last summer, and after Christmas, no new peak incidence has been registered. It is for this reason that the Alert Report contemplates the possibility, since initially the idea was to wait for March, the month in which the waves of acute infections decrease.

Although the time to completely remove the masks is getting closer, it should be borne in mind that the mandatory use of these in health establishments, such as hospitals, pharmacies, health centers and even opticians and dental clinics, is not yet contemplated. , so in these cases it would still be necessary to carry them.
