Solidarity Everesting: a cyclist from Ondara will travel the more than 8 thousand meters of Everest from Pego to Ebo

August 22 from 2022 - 10: 32

Tour Everest from Pego and Ebo. This is the challenge that the cyclist from Ondara and member of the Segària Cycling Club, José Fornés, has set himself to complete a solidarity Everesting for the fight against multiple sclerosis. The charity event will be on August 28 with Pego and Vall d'Ebo as the stage.

The feat, which consists of traveling non-stop, in this case by bicycle, the same meters as the height of the
Mount Everest, 8.848, has the collaboration of the City Council of Pego.

This challenge begins because "I have a colleague whom I appreciate very much who was diagnosed with this disease and it is my way of contributing my grain of sand to the cause". To do this, Fornés will make up to 20 times the same route, the Vall d'Ebo pass, starting in the area known as Els Pilarets, in the municipality of Pego.

This race against multiple sclerosis will start at midnight on August 00 and Fornés estimates that he will have to be pedaling his bicycle until approximately 28:16 p.m., "as long as the body can hold out." To achieve this, he explains, he has been training for this Everesting for some time.

Every two days he goes out with his bike to cover between 5 or 6 ports. The physical aspect is fundamental, but also the mental one, "you have to be prepared because if your head fails, your body notices it." Fornés is not new to achieving feats on a bicycle, among the most outstanding, his pedal trip from Madrid and Gijón and back; or go around the Rectory 22 times without stopping, among others.

Fornés assures that the Vall d'Ebo pass "has sometimes choked me, it is one of the most difficult for me". It is not for less, since the unevenness is 460 meters in a distance of just over 7,7 kilometers. “There have been people who have recommended me to do the Coll de Rates pass, but my stubbornness takes me to the Vall d'Ebo”.

The cyclist regrets the great fire this past week that the area has suffered. "I've been training these last few days and it's sad, the picture now is very different." Fornés believes that with 'Everesting' he will help encourage visits to the area, "Vall d'Ebo is a spectacular port, very good for cyclists, if I help promote the area through cycling, it will be great ”.

On August 28 he will not be alone, his colleagues from the Segària Cycling Club will be giving him support on the road, as well as other cyclists from the region who have decided to collaborate with the cause. Also members of the Association of Multiple Sclerosis of Alicante (ADEMA) for whom the benefits of the test will be allocated.

“We want to congratulate José Fornés for this charitable initiative and for having thought of the road that connects Pego and Vall d'Ebo to carry it out. It is a good proposal to be able to give visibility to this disease and contribute its grain of sand for research and at Pego we want to join the cause.

In addition, it can also be a good promotion so that people, whether they are cyclists or not, are encouraged to come to this area that has suffered such a strong blow”.
