Last Thursday, in the first ordinary plenary session of the year, the El Verger City Council approved its adhesion to the Fons Valencià per la Solidaritat. The decision was supported by the municipal groups of Compromís, PSPV and PP, while Vox opted to abstain.
The Valencian Fund for Solidarity is an association that brings together Valencian municipalities and associations with the aim of combining efforts and resources to eradicate poverty and promote equal opportunities through international cooperation and education for development. Currently, 139 municipalities and 9 associations are part of this entity, in addition to having the support of the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP), the Generalitat Valenciana and the Provincial Council of Valencia.
The fund's mission is to contribute to the creation of a more just, equitable and sustainable world, in line with the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To this end, it carries out its work in three main areas: cooperation, education and institutional. These are based on the principles of municipalism, decentralization, pluralism, collaboration and respect for diversity.
The Councillor for Equality and Inclusive Policies of El Verger, Alba Pérez, has highlighted the importance of this adhesion and pointed out that "it represents a further step in the solidarity policies that we are carrying out. In addition to collaborating financially with our contributions, we want to promote the spirit of volunteering, joint work and solidarity among the population of El Verger." She also recalled that "we have already demonstrated our capacity to respond with the DANA of Valencia, and we want this spirit not only to be maintained, but to be strengthened."
