The Minister of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, has announced that on September 22 the Generalitat "will offer free transport in Metrovalencia, TRAM d'Alacant, TRAM de Castelló and MetroBus to celebrate World Car-Free Day in the Valencian Community.
Martínez Mus pointed out during his visit to the La Marina station of the TRAM d'Alacant that this initiative "is added to the actions programmed by the Generalitat during Mobility Week, which is held from 16 to 22 September, with the aim of promoting the use of public transport as the best alternative to private vehicles."
"Through the 'SUBE' campaign, we invite citizens to use public transport, also thinking about people with mobility problems so that public transport becomes increasingly universal and accessible," said the minister, who stressed that the objective "is to promote functional, safe, universal and healthy mobility throughout the year and not just this week."
In this regard, he recalled that the Generalitat has maintained in force since the beginning of the legislature the main advantages it offers to encourage the use of regional public transport services. Thus, the 50% reduction in the price of multi-trip passes and tickets will remain in force until 31 January 2025 and free admission for young people under 31 years of age will continue to be valid until 31 December.
Martínez Mus explained that, without a doubt, "these measures have had a direct impact on the use of public transport, which has maintained a constant growth in recent years, so that in 2024 the results obtained in 2023 will be surpassed, which already marked a historical record by exceeding 100 million users on FGV. To date, more than 66 million journeys have been recorded in the Comunitat and on the TRAM d'Alacant we are going to reach 20 million passengers, almost double that of just five years ago."
The minister stressed that the Generalitat's commitment to sustainable mobility in Alicante "is total". An example of this is the future intermodal station, whose works he has announced will begin in October. "We want the central station to be a national example of how to articulate transport and mobility in a series of powerful nodes connected to state networks, capable of spreading throughout the territory the advantages of major axes such as the airport, the Mediterranean Corridor or the Madrid-Alicante axis."
91 million fewer trips
FGV avoids 91 million journeys in private vehicles every year in Valencia, Alicante and metropolitan areas, 15,2 million in Alicante alone. These figures, the minister said, "represent almost 115.000 tons of carbon dioxide that are not emitted into the atmosphere."
The presentation of the 'SUBE' campaign, which took place at the La Marina TRAM station in Alicante, was also attended by the regional secretary for Infrastructure and Transport, Javier Sendra, the general director of Transport and Logistics, Manuel Ríos, and the managing director of FGV, Alfonso Novo.
On the occasion of the European Mobility Week, the Generalitat has launched a campaign under the slogan 'SUBE'-'PUJA' inviting all citizens to use public transport. "'SUBE. Hay sitio para ti' is aimed especially at people with disabilities, since the Generalitat is working to achieve more accessible transport for the entire population," said the minister.
In this context, this week the official presentation of 'Navilens', the new signalling and guidance system installed in the Metrovalencia and TRAM d'Alacant stations and stops, will take place.
After more than a year of work, FGV has completed the installation of some 3.000 callsigns in some 217 facilities in Valencia and Alicante, being the first Spanish operation to complete the incorporation of 'Navilens' throughout its network.
As part of the events organised this week, various round tables and meetings will be held to analyse aspects such as medium-high capacity public transport systems or to address the present and future of multimodal logistics platforms in the Mediterranean Corridor.
Well said and to add that making a trip of 3 hours or more without bathrooms... I would like to know who was the ENLIGHTENED ONE... BOTCHES
I think it's great. If they offered more service and better hours, I'm sure it would be used more. Finishing at 22,30:XNUMX is very early... you shouldn't just think about the weekend...
