The TRAM already has the new rates and discounts

The Generalitat applies from today, Friday June 17, a new fare regulation in the TRAM d'Alacant that allows users of this means of transport to save up to 50%.

The rates are accompanied by a new zonal plan that entails a simplification with respect to the previous distribution, going from six zones to three, plus two inter-district transition areas to avoid the rigidity of zonal borders and to reduce the cost of this type of movements between two zones.

Until today, the six existing fare zones gave rise to 21 possible zonal combinations and six different fares, depending on the number of zones traveled on a journey. With the model that comes into force today, there are six possible zonal combinations depending on the trip made and only three applicable rates: one, two or three zones in which the 10-trip Bonus will cost 8 euros, 12 euros and 20 euros, respectively.

The Minister of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Rebeca Torró, has highlighted that "the new proposal tries to make the use of the Alicante TRAM simpler, more comfortable and much more economical, since the new prices are more competitive and are applied to all types of titles of the network that links Alicante and Dénia".

In turn, he explained that "this measure also achieves a homogenization of the prices of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) in its holdings in Valencia and Alicante to promote equality in the use of the transport service".

"The next step is to extend the TAM zone to the whole of the metropolitan area, and for this the Generalitat is already working in coordination with city councils, urban and interurban transport operators and Cercanías", Torró pointed out.

New zonal map

With the new distribution, the three zones correspond to the three regions through which the TRAM d'Alacant circulates: L'Alacantí, Marina Baixa and Marina Alta. Another novelty presented by the new structure is the inclusion of two inter-county transition sections, which are established between Pla Barraques and Costera Pastor, in the south, and between Altea and Benissa, in the north. Trips made between stops on each of these sections are considered trips made in a single zone.

Zone A covers the stops located in the municipalities of Alacant, Sant Vicent del Raspeig and El Campello, to which future extensions of the network in the municipalities of Sant Joan and Mutxamel would be added.

However, until the extension of the TAM area is completed, through the agreement with the rest of the administrations involved, the stops of Amerador, Coveta Fumá, Cala Piteres and Venta Lanuza, belonging to the municipality of El Campello, will remain integrated in the Zone B

Zone B includes the stops in the municipalities of La Vila-joiosa, Benidorm, L'Alfàs del Pi and Altea, while Zone C is made up of the municipalities of Calp, Teulada, Gata de Gorgos, Benissa and Dénia.

Examples by municipalities

With the new zone map and the new rates that apply from today, for example, a person who wants to travel from the Lucentum stop in Alicante to Benidorm or who wants to make a journey from El Albir to Dénia, will begin to move for two zones, instead of the previous three. This represents a reduction of 42% in the price of Bond 10, which will go from 21 euros to 12 euros.

On the other hand, people who want to travel from Sant Vicent del Raspeig to Altea go from traveling through the four current zones to traveling through two. This means a 55% discount, starting in the summer, and they go from paying 27 euros to 20 euros.

Movements between Gata de Gorgos and Calp cost 42% less, taking Bono 10 as a reference, since they travel through one zone and not the two current zones. Likewise, people who want to move from Dénia to Benidorm or vice versa also see how the areas through which they move are reduced, which means a saving of 42%.

Finally, there will also be areas that benefit from a price reduction, even if they go through the same number of areas in the future. For example, the residents of El Campello who want to move to Hospital Vila continue to pay for two zones, but the price of the Bonus 10 for two zones goes from 14 euros to 12 euros.
