The return of the TRAM d'Alacant between Teulada-Moraira and Gata de Gorgos that will soon arrive in Dénia

13 July 2022 - 13: 41

This morning, the Minister of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Rebeca Torró, made one of the first journeys that resume the rail connection between Teulada-Moraira and Gata de Gorgos. After the launch of this section, Line 9 of the TRAM d'Alacant is getting closer to finally reaching Dénia.

With the launch of the renewed section between towns in the Marina, the bus stop in Gata that allows the journey to Dénia to be completed will be located in the Plaza Casa Roja from today.

For this reason, although it is already possible to travel from Benidorm to Gata, the continuity of the trip to the capital of the region will have to wait until the three viaducts that the route will open are operational. These are the ones in l'Algar, Mascarat and Quisi, whose works are finished, so it is expected that they can start to be used at the end of 2022.

For his part, Torró has announced that "the connection to Dénia will come into service at the end of this year, once the conditioning works of the Dénia workshop are completed to be able to accommodate the new dual trains (diesel-electric)"

To formalize the start-up of the section between the municipalities of Teulada-Moraira and Gata de Gorgos, the councilor has traveled in transport together with the mayors of both towns, Josep Signes, from Gata de Gorgos, and Raúl Llobell from Teulada-Moraira , and with the managing director of Ferrocarrils de la Generealitat Valenciana (FGV), Anaïs Menguzzato, and the regional secretary for Public Works, Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Mari Pérez.

Actions carried out

The works carried out on this section, together with those carried out to Dénia, have affected some 17 kilometres, with an investment of more than 30 million euros, financed by the European Union.

With this action, it has been possible to renew and modernize the section, acting on embankments and slopes and changing lanes, sleepers and ballast. The works carried out make it possible to improve safety conditions, promote user comfort, track durability and reduce maintenance.

Among the projects carried out in this section has been included the adaptation of the vertical gauge of the tunnels, as well as the rehabilitation of the structure and expansion of the platform of the centenary stone viaduct of Gata de Gorgos, the work of the Mining Engineer José Carbonell.

In turn, this same intervention has included the tramway of the Dénia urban section, which has made it possible to integrate the roads urbanistically, transform the level crossings into intersections with traffic lights and eliminate the walls that close the roads, achieving a much more permeable avenue. and integrated urbanistically, putting an end to the division that the trenet meant by cutting Dénia on its south side.

In parallel, in recent months the signaling, communications, energy and ATP work has been completed, with a global budget for the line as a whole of more than 15 million euros. In parallel, work has also been completed on the installation of intercom, public address and video surveillance systems in stations and halts.

Reform of the Gata de Gorgos station

FGV plans to begin the refurbishment and comprehensive reform of the main building of the Gata de Gorgos station shortly. The rehabilitation includes, among other elements, roofs, floors and installations and has a budget of less than half a million euros.

Diesel-electrique, in 2022 when it is concerned about the pollution generated by the propulsion genre. I do not understand pas the decision of the authorities. Ce train aurait dû être électrique uniquement, mais surtout pas diesel. Même si c'est plus cher, notre avenir n'as pas de prix. Les voitures diesel très bientôt interdites dans les centers ville, et le train alors!

The question now is whether it will still take twice as long to go to Alicante than if you go by car...
