The abundant rainfall recorded in recent weeks has significantly benefited the region's water resources. In particular, the Lucifer well, located in the Vall de Laguar and the main aquifer supplying Calp, has reached its maximum reserves thanks to natural recharge resulting from rainfall, as confirmed by the Calp City Council.
According to the data collected, 249 liters per square meter have been recorded so far this month, bringing the annual total to 427 liters per square meter. This situation guarantees the supply of drinking water for Calp throughout 2025, they stated. However, both the City Council and Aguas de Calpe insist on the need to maintain responsible water consumption.
New well to strengthen water security
At the same time, the project to build a second well next to the existing Lucifer well is moving forward. Last January, the Alicante Provincial Council awarded a €400.000 grant to the Calp, Murla and La Vall de Laguar-Lucifer Well Association for the construction of this new infrastructure, which will be located approximately 400 meters from the existing well.
This second well will not increase water extraction, but will serve as a backup in case of incidents or breakdowns in the current infrastructure. The project, which will be carried out directly by the Alicante Provincial Council, is scheduled for completion in 2026.
