OPINION | We are Calpe
Corruption scandals continue to plague the Popular Party, and now it seems that time has proven our leader right. Ana Sala, who left this party and can now give his opinion without restrictions.
On the one hand, in the Valencian Community, Eduardo Zaplana, former leader of the PP, has been convicted of corruption. Investigations revealed that, during his administration, Zaplana had committed crimes of money laundering and misappropriation of public funds, appropriating large sums through a network of companies and accounts abroad. These funds, obtained illegally, were allegedly hidden to evade the authorities and to personally benefit from resources destined for public service.
And, closer still, in Calp, our town, the possible illegal exhumation of niches is being investigated. Apparently, these exhumations were carried out without the proper authorization and outside the legal framework, which implies a possible violation of the rights of the relatives of the deceased and of municipal regulations. A former councilor of the Popular Party is also involved in this plot, after illegally exhuming a deceased person from a niche in the municipal cemetery to bury the grandmother of a municipal technician in it.
Ana Sala, mayor of Calp and leader of Somos Calpe, made it clear that she does not miss the shadow of corruption, saying: “I am satisfied to have taken a step back.”
As a municipalist party, at Somos Calpe we believe that it is time to demand that the PP be held accountable. Citizens deserve honest and transparent political parties and leaders, and this recent series of scandals demonstrates the urgency of taking action. These events not only show the ethical deterioration of the PP, but also the risk it poses to the integrity of public institutions.
