The new mayor of Benitatxell orders residents to wear flip-flops

May 02 from 2022 - 13: 49

San Pancracio is one of the funniest and most deeply rooted celebrations in the municipality since it was introduced by 'La Cuadrilla del Sarmiento'. As tradition dictates, the municipality has already appointed its mayor for a day, Sergio Gallego Pérez, and the deputy mayor, José Soler Ferrer. Gallego is the first mayor of Tenerife in the history of the festival of San Pancracio.

From the balcony of the City Hall, he announced his first mayoral decree this Monday, which the neighbors will have to comply with next Saturday on the festive day of costumes: wear, as they would say in their land, the cholas. Or as they are known in Poble Nou, the traditional Beach flip-flops.

The weekend has been full of festive and religious events in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. Dozens of pobleros and pobleras participated in the colorful floral offering to the Virgen de la Rosa. Children and adults went to the Church to offer the Virgin with her floral bouquets accompanied by the Music Band and the Colla La Llebetjà.

Next, the Grup de Danses Morro Falquí offered a sample of traditional dances with dolçaina and tabalet music in the Plaza de la Iglesia. In the evening, there was dancing with the Twister orchestra on La Pau street.

The celebration of religious acts in honor of the Virgen de la Rosa continued yesterday, Sunday, with the blessing and subsequent distribution throughout the town of 120 'pans beneïts', one of the most deeply rooted and unique traditions in the municipality in which festivities participate, festeras, boys and girls from the municipality walking the streets with baskets of blessed bread. Accompanied by the Music Band and the Colla La Llebetjà, the entourage distributed the pieces of bread to the neighbors who were waiting for them in the doorways with an empty plate throughout all the houses in the town.
The festivities continue today, Monday, on Pau street with rooster races that always leave amusing impressions, giant paella, Cau championship at the Social Center and a performance by the Glitter Duo.
