The Hospital of Dénia participates in the iHelp program, a European Union project on innovation and research, framed in the Horizon 2020 Plan.

The Dianense health center is part, along with 14 other institutions; between hospitals, universities and research centers in different European countries, in the iHelp project whose objective is to carry out a study for the prevention and early detection of pancreatic cancer.

The Dénia Hospital will study how the lifestyle of each patient influences the development or evolution of the pathology. The field work will be carried out over three years between two groups of patients, who will be monitored: the first with a diagnosis of pancreatic neoplasia and the second without pathology.

According to Dr. Joan Manel Gassent, Head of the Oncology Service of the Hospital de Dénia, “the project is extremely interesting since, in addition to helping to define strategies for early detection, it will allow to carry out genomic studies of the neoplasia and apply new diagnostic techniques ”.

Another advantage of iHelp is that it will provide support to physicians to improve decision-making, especially in patients with more advanced stages of disease. It will also provide physicians with additional information on the molecular progression of the neoplasm, help you personalize treatments.

The information of historical data with others in real time will help to create a decisive database when defining diagnosis and treatment programs. It should be remembered that pancreatic cancer is one of the most devastating, since the diagnosis usually occurs in very advanced stages.

Oncologists and specialists in General Surgery, Preventive Medicine and Family and Community Medicine work in the study that is being developed; as well as IT and support staff.
