The Ondara Government team has offered a press conference to clarify the situation following the withdrawal of Compromís per Ondara from the government pact with the PSPV-PSOE, which had been developing since the 2023 municipal elections. The spokesperson for the relevant statements has been Mayor José Ramiro.
Firstly, Ramiro highlighted the joint work carried out over the last few years, and then explained the reasons that led to the breakdown of the coalition. "The work that has been done in culture, in Equality and in promoting the business fabric of Ondara is indisputable," the mayor began by saying. He recalled the achievements made during these years of joint government, such as the improvement of the industrial estate, the promotion of trade and investments in culture and social services.
Ramiro explained that the trigger for the break with Compromís was a "personal problem that has escalated into an institutional problem," referring to the lack of attention by the mayor Àngels Grimalt to her responsibilities for personal and professional reasons. "Unfortunately, for months there has been an overload of work that the other mayors of Compromís, as well as the technical staff of the City Council, have had to deal with," he indicated.
The mayor explained that, despite efforts to resolve the situation internally, the unbearable situation has led to a turning point. "After several failed attempts to rectify the situation, he was given the possibility of resigning or handing over his delegations." When he failed to do so, he explained, the possibility of removing his powers also arose.
Ramiro also referred to the accusations levelled against him and his government team. "I am not going to evaluate these statements. I have not read them because I believe they do no good to the people of Ondara," he stressed, adding that the situation is not a conflict between parties, but a "personal issue escalated to the institution."
As for the future, Ramiro has made it clear that the door to the municipal government remains open for Compromís. "We believe that Compromís Ondara gains more by being in government. We do not share the decision to abandon the pact, but we respect the decision. Our door will always be open to talk and continue working for the people of Ondara."
The governing team has had to reorganise the delegations, with some PSPV-PSOE councillors taking on new responsibilities. Councillor Raquel Mengual will be in charge of the areas of Social Care, Equality and Heritage, while Councillor Rosana Marí will take on Culture and Language Policy. In addition, Jordi Ruiz will take on the responsibilities of Sports and Animal Welfare, as well as internal organisation such as Personnel and Purchasing at an administrative level, while Miguel Gómez will be in charge of the areas of Festivals and Traditions.
Ramiro concluded his speech by stating that, despite the situation, the objective remains to "work for the people of Ondara" and that they will continue to manage public resources with transparency and efficiency. "The people want quality public services, and we will continue working to offer them," he concluded.
