The Circuit a Peu returns to Benitatxell with new events, surprises, and more than a thousand riders.

18 March 2025 - 12: 34

The Circuit a Peu Marina Alta returns to El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. For this eighth edition of the event in the municipality, a major event has been planned, replacing the usual Saturday afternoons of recent years with Sunday mornings.

The details were announced this Monday by the mayor, Miguel Ángel García, the Councilor for Sports, Javi Cabrera, the president of the Benitatxell Multiesport Club, Juan Zaragozí, along with other club members, and the Sports Coordinator, Celso Alcázar. The heads of operations from the Local Police and Civil Protection were also present at the coordination meeting.

Between the children's races and the main event, more than a thousand athletes and their families are expected to come to the town to experience this athletics festival. The adult race will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Avenida de València, and the children's events will start at 12:00 p.m.

Along with the races, there will be musical accompaniment to cheer on the runners on the toughest climbs, with the Ondarattak batucada, the Colla La Llebetjà, and the Children's Band from the Poble Nou de Benitatxell Music School. This year, one of the new features is the snack bar with lunch service set up by the Festers 2025 of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. Showers will be located at the La Font municipal football field, and the cloakroom and bike storage will be located 140 meters from the finish line. In addition, the Multisport Club has prepared a few more surprises.

The race passes through a rural landscape of great beauty, next to the Abiar wells, riuraus, vineyards, and the narrow, beautiful streets of the town center. This year, the decision was made to return to the old route, avoiding the steep climb of the Camí Abiar, thus making this race of the Circuit a Peu Marina Alta a little more bearable. The race has earned the name "El Tourmalet" of La Marina, being the most demanding of all due to its gradients. The course is 8,1 km long and has a vertical drop of 149 meters.

"Although this year we've opted for a slightly less challenging course, returning via the Teulada road instead of the Camí Abiar, it's still a challenge for runners to take on this leg-breaking event. Other towns design flat, fast courses to break participation records. Our event is different and has a great appeal," emphasized Juan Zaragozí, who took the opportunity to thank "the City Council, sponsors, the Local Police, Civil Protection, Festers 2025, and, of course, all the club volunteers who are dedicated to the organization."

The athletes of the Benitatxell Multisport Club will play a special role, as they will act as hosts. After the competitions Xàbia, Calp, Gata de Gorgos and Teulada have placed tenth out of a total of 94 clubs. Special mention goes to the local club's women's team, positioned with very good results in third place in the ranking, very close to CA Publidom de Dénia and CE Llebeig from Xàbia. The warmth and support of playing at home will be key.

Registration is open until Friday, March 21 at 12:00 noon at the official website.
