Since 2019, the Forna castle has been closed to the public, but it seems that soon it will be able to shine again as one of the outstanding fortresses of the Marina Alta. The Ministry of Culture will invest 1.091.000 euros of European funds to restore it soon.
The construction has suffered severe deterioration over time, but now the rehabilitation project will be rescued to reopen it in 2026. This was confirmed by the Secretary General for Culture and Sports, Víctor Francos, during his visit to the castle last Tuesday. It was there, together with the regional secretary for Culture, Joaquim Enric López, the head of the territorial service for Culture in Alicante of the Generalitat, José Antonio López Mira, the mayoress of l'Atzúbia, María Oltra, and the Government sub-delegate in Alicante, Araceli Poblador, where the great investment was announced.
The works will begin in summer and the entire process will be adapted so that, in addition, the castle meets the sustainability requirements in terms of waste management and energy efficiency set by European funds. On the other hand, it will be part of the restoration to offer better accessibility.
