Last week, the XVIII Spanish Veterans +50 and +65 Chess Championship organized by the Valencian Community Chess Federation was held in Altea. More than 200 players participated in it and among them was a chess player from the Marina Alta, Francisco Morató Tent, a resident of Gata de Gorgos, president of the Club d'Escacs de Xàbia and promoter of chess in the classrooms of educational centers.
Morató failed to win the title, which went to Luis María Campos Gambuti (+50), from Club Alfaz del Pi, and José Luis Fernández García (+65); but he did achieve great results in this Championship.
The chess player from Gata de Gorgos showed his talent and went through rounds each day of competition, thus occupying the top positions in the classification, but finally he was unlucky and fell in the last round and could not play the final that was held last Sunday.
