It seemed never to arrive, but this afternoon the Alicante Provincial Fire Department officially declared that they had extinguished the fire that originated in the Vall d'Ebo at 20:30 p.m.

Today was exactly two weeks since its origin. On Saturday, August 13, at around 21:37 p.m., lightning struck a piece of land in the Frigalet de Vall d'Ebo district. The phenomenon set the area on fire and since then 12.150 hectares of land and 100 km of forest area in the Marina Alta have been burned.

The towns and municipalities affected increased with the passing of days. Vall d'Ebo, Vall de Gallinera, Vall de Laguar, Vall d'Alcalà, l'Atzúbia, Pego, Castell de Castells, Sagra, Tormos, Orba, have been the municipalities of the region that saw their lands burn from impotence. But the flames advanced at such a speed that they reached the neighboring counties of Comtat and Safor.

The spokesperson for the Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium, Pepe Cerdá, wanted to personally communicate the news. As he states, the fire was controlled last Sunday, August 21, but another week had to pass before the perimeter and areas of burned ground could be thoroughly reviewed. Cerdá has assured that the work of these last few days has been favored by the weather conditions.

The complete extinction of the fire has been possible thanks to the tireless work of numerous media outlets that have dedicated all their efforts to fighting the fire. From the Fire Department of Alicante, Valencia and Murcia to the Military Emergency Unit (UME) and a long list of professional teams that fight flames and natural disasters of this nature.
