The Civil Guard has arrested a 23-year-old man in Calp as the alleged perpetrator of eight robberies, committed both in a public establishment and in several vehicles. The detainee, who has numerous previous convictions for crimes against property, has been remanded in custody by court order.
The crimes took place between January and early February. During that period, the Civil Guard recorded three robberies in a restaurant in the town centre and five robberies in vehicles parked near a tourist cove in the municipality. To clarify the events and identify the person responsible, the Investigation Area of the Main Post of Calp launched the operation "Creep II".
Police investigations revealed that the restaurant was burglarized three times in the course of a week. In each case, the criminal forced open the front door with a screwdriver or similar object and stole the cash register and a safe with money inside. The car thefts followed a similar pattern: the thief smashed the windows and stole the owners' personal belongings.
Thanks to the investigations carried out, the agents concluded that a single individual was behind all these robberies. His modus operandi, acting at night and moving on foot, suggested that he was hiding in a nearby location.
Finally, on 7 February, the Guardia Civil managed to identify and locate the suspect in an abandoned restaurant near the cove where the robberies had taken place. At the time of his arrest, various stolen objects and a small amount of money in Swiss francs were recovered.
The recovered material was identified as having come from the thefts investigated and subsequently returned to its rightful owners.
After being placed at the disposal of the Court on Duty of the Judicial District of Dénia, the judge ordered his provisional imprisonment pending trial.
