Dénia will host 'Abric Almadrava', a podcast about the soundscapes of the Marina Alta

February 05 from 2025 - 19: 56

Next Friday, February 7, 2025, at 19:30 p.m., the Espai d'Art Joan Castejón, located in the Casa de Cultura de Dénia, will host the presentation of 'Abric Almadrava', a podcast by sound creator, musician and cultural manager Edu Comelles. This work, funded through the Impulsa Cultura 2024 grants from the Salom Sabar Foundation, is based on field recordings made in different natural and heritage spaces in the Marina Alta, with the aim of exploring the close relationship between sound, territory and memory.

During the event, which will be free to enter until full capacity is reached, the public will be able to attend a talk-concert in which Comelles will explain the creative process and offer the opportunity to listen to several fragments of the work. The podcast is made up of a prologue, four episodes and an epilogue, recorded entirely in Valencian, which cover emblematic places such as Pla de Petracos, Vall de Laguar, Serra del Carrascar in Parcent, Marjal de Pego i Oliva and Cova Tallada in Dénia. As the author points out on his website:

«Through observation and attentive listening to soundscapes, I explore different realities, problems and singularities of a territory of contrasts.»

'Abric Almadrava' adopts a chronological narrative that, chapter by chapter, allows us to delve into very diverse landscapes and unexpected contexts, creating a personal and subjective acoustic map of the Marina Alta. The stone, the cave, the shelter or Almadrava itself become poetic elements that suggest everything that happens or is perceived while travelling through this coastal and mountainous territory.

The podcast has been available since February 3 on the main digital platforms, where it is recommended to use quality headphones or speakers to appreciate its rich sound. This initiative is supported by the Salom Sabar Foundation, through the Impulsa Cultura grants, and with the collaboration of the Dénia City Council.

With the presentation of 'Abric Almadrava', Edu Comelles highlights the importance of sound heritage and reveals how artistic creation can contribute to the understanding and conservation of the collective memory of the Marina Alta.
