Let's defend Calpe fight to avoid the construction of towers in the Saladar and on the beachfront

February 03 from 2023 - 15: 37

Defendamos Calpe has presented a proposal to prevent the construction of large towers in the Saladar and other areas on the Calp beachfront. The point that the group brings to the plenary session will be discussed next Monday, February 13. The explanatory text of the match is attached below:

The PP allowed in 2017 that any building to be built in the Saladar sector, adjacent to Las Salinas, could have freedom of heights. This will cause towers of more than 15 heights to be allowed, many more...

The city council then granted construction licenses under this new regulation. The PGOU of 1998 did not allow it until then.

In 2021, this regulation was reviewed again and the previous situation returned, which would from then on allow the granting of licenses for constructions of a maximum of 15 heights. The problem we find ourselves with is that there may be licenses granted in the 2017-2021 period that reach heights greater than 30 heights.

There are tools that allow us to review or even revoke these licenses in the general interest, with the aim of protecting the landscape of the municipality, taking care of our environment, and preventing Calpe from ceasing to be the town it has always been. In this case, there is no economic damage to those interested in these constructions because it does not imply a loss of useful use of the dwellings, but simply a change in their morphology.

It should be noted that the PP itself issued an economic report in relation to the installation of the fish farm in Calpe, which would affect our economy by hundreds of millions, precisely because of the landscape impact that this infrastructure would have on the municipality. We consider that if a facility, the fish farm, clearly affects, in the same way a building of more than 30 heights will have the same harmful impact for the population as a whole.

Our proposal aims to make Calpe a more sustainable town, which takes care of our environment, and this is also achieved by not harming the interests of the owners because, as we say, it does not mean a loss of buildability, simply an adaptation of the works to the reality of the environment.

We now have the opportunity to partially remedy an urban development that does not seek to improve the quality of life of Calpe's residents and, nevertheless, affects our environment in an unjustified and exaggerated way. Everything in a balanced way, without anyone losing, and we all win as a people.
