The Peñón de Ifach Trophy begins between Calp and Formentera with 42 boats in competition

At 10:00 this morning the Trophy started Peñón de Ifach, the emblematic competition of the Real Club Náutico de Calpe, celebrating in this edition its 34 years of history. The Peñón regatta maintains its format, with two races: Calp – Formentera, which started today, and a second race that will be launched on Saturday the 27th with the reverse route, Formentera – Calpe.

A new challenge for the registered fleet, which reaches 42 boats, which will have a third incentive in terms of the previous ones, since together with the exclusive Peñón de Ifach Trophy and the Salvador Mir Trophy, the first place in the classification general joins the Autonomic of Altitude Cruises of the Sailing Federation of the Valencian Community.

High level and high quality among those registered, among which some units from the Region of Murcia stand out. Among the favourites, the two largest in the fleet stand out: Plis Play (RCN Calpe), a Swan 80 owned by Vicente García, or Alzira-Moraira (CN Moraira), Swan 75, owned by Agustín Gregori. Both will play to be the fastest to complete the course and the fight between the two becomes a titanic adventure.

But also within that length of the greats we find Spaniard from Alicante, (RCR of Alicante) with a Grand Soleil 50, Limbo II (CN Santa Pola) of Miguel Ángel García with an XP 44. They are joined by the locals, three, such as Jeffertje II (Grand Soleil 46), Issabella, Carlos Momplet, although this is grouped in ORC2, and the great favorite: Ítaca IX by Manuel Gallego.

In the middle zone is the Guaganco de Altea, Greek from Torrevieja, Aleph IV from Villajoyosa, Etreus from Altea. In this area of ​​the ORC2 and ORC3 are those from home, from the RCN de Calpe and who are always on the podium, such as Calama or Aurora.

As for the wind conditions, the average wind is expected at the start, rising somewhat at the equator of the test, with a certain swell.
