The Marina Alta is in a very sweet sporting moment. The region will host a half marathon for the first time, the 21K Marina Alta. This sporting event was born due to the growing interest in the field of athletics in the region, very notable this last season of the Circuit a Peu.
The 21k will be held on September 22 and will travel through four municipalities: Dénia, Ondara, Els Poblets and El Verger. The test circuit, organized by the Dénia Corre Club with the support of the participating clubs and town councils, aims to consolidate itself as an annual event.
The Sports Councilor of Dénia, Valen Alcalà, highlighted in the presentation of the event held yesterday that the decision to create this half marathon arises from the increase in the number of runners and both asphalt and mountain events in the Marina Alta. "The lack of a half marathon event has been the main reason for launching this event, thus offering a new and exciting goal for running enthusiasts," said Alcalà. In addition, he highlighted the opportunity to take advantage of the potential of local runners and enhance the territory through sport.
The race will have a traveling start and finish between the four participating towns. In this first edition, the departure and arrival will be at 08:30 in Dénia, specifically at its Sports Center. The 21.1 km route is mostly flat, with a cumulative gradient of only 106 meters, combining asphalt and sections of compact dirt on the greenway and the Molla path, offering a privileged natural environment.
Sergi Brogniez, Sports Councilor of El Verger, explained that the Greenway that connects Dénia with Els Poblets will be used, an old railway line that adds a distinctive touch to the event and minimizes the closure of road traffic. In addition, he highlighted that the route will pass through the four towns, allowing the neighbors to encourage the runners along the way.
The organization of the race is sponsored by the Baleària Foundation and ALE-HOP, and with the active participation of local athletics clubs, such as Club Dénia Corre, CA Sense Pressa del Verger, CA Ondara and Ondara Tri -esport. José Luis Mas, mayor and sports councilor of Els Poblets, thanked the Dénia Corre Club for their joint work and organization, pointing out that his support is essential for the success of the event, providing the experience and knowledge necessary for impeccable organization.
The registration, with a limit of 500 participants, will reward the runners of the last edition of the Circuit a Peu de la Marina Alta with special rates, according to Miguel Moreno, from the Board of Directors of the Circuit a Peu de la Marina Alta. The prices will be as follows:
- Section 1 (June 26 – July 07): €16 (registered for the Circuit a Peu Marina Alta €14)
- Section 2 (July 08 – August 08): €18 (registered for the Circuit a Peu Marina Alta €16)
- Section 3 (August 09 – September 09): €20 (registered for the Circuit a Peu Marina Alta €18)
- Section 4 (September 10 – 19): €22 (all €22)
Lluis Fornés, Sports Councilor of Ondara, announced that registration will be open from June 27.
The Dénia Corre Club states that it is difficult to make an exact estimate of the participants, but they hope that this 21K will become a new challenge for all runners on the annual circuit, as well as an attraction for runners from neighboring regions. Therefore, they invite all running lovers to join this adventure and become part of the sporting history of the Marina Alta.
