Benissa, Pedreguer, Pego and Els Poblets among the 23 city councils of the province that will benefit this year from the call for subsidies promoted by the Alicante Provincial Council for the drafting and presentation of European projects, which has increased its financial contribution by more than 30 %. The institution has resolved this program, which will distribute a total of 64.500 euros among the benefited local entities and with which it seeks to promote all those actions that contribute to attracting European funds for municipalities, in this case with less than 50.000 inhabitants.

The deputy for European Projects, Innovation and Digital Agenda, Adrián Ballester, highlighted that "the call has shown, for the second consecutive year, the growing interest of our municipalities to participate in European programs in areas such as the environment, transport, digitization or employment ”.

In this sense, of the beneficiary municipalities, 17 requested the benefit to lead projects, especially for the Erasmus programs - training in non-formal education for young people-, Citinzenship or ERDF Funds.

The consistories benefited in this line, with a total grant of 540.482 euros, are Agost, Agres, Almoradí, Aspe, Benissa, Cox, Dolores, Finestrat, Ibi, Mutxamel, Pedreguer, Pego, Planes, Els Poblets, Redován, Relleu and Tibi .

"It is important to note that most of the municipalities have taken up the line to lead projects and that of these, eleven have a population of less than 10.000 inhabitants and six less than 5.000, which is an important step in the will to achieve and manage European funds by these small towns ”, indicated Ballester.

On the other hand, six other municipalities have requested the benefit to participate as partners in a project. In this case, the aid has amounted to 9.968 euros and will reach Altea, Benejúzar, Bigastro, Rafal, Rojales and Tárbena. The Erasmus and Citizenship programs have concentrated the largest number of requests in this section.

"We are taking very important steps to generate a culture of requesting European funding by the town councils of the province," concluded the spokesman for the government team of the Diputación.
