Urban art grows in Ondara: Paco Chika creates a mural dedicated to Frida Kahlo

06 June 2021 - 06: 00

The walls and facades of the Alberca river promenade as it passes through the urban area of Ondara have added a new artistic work this week: the mural dedicated to Frida Kahlo and created by the artist Paco Chika. It is an initiative promoted and funded by the Department of Equality directed by Raquel Mengual, with which the Department of Equality wants to pay tribute to the painter Frida Kahlo as a reference for feminism and for her personal improvement.

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter, recognized for her famous self-portraits, described as part of the surrealist movement. The painter created her own style by taking aspects of her life, mixing them with the elements of nature and the Mexican identity. Frida was a free woman, and this was reflected in her works, in which she spoke openly about sexuality, abortion, breastfeeding or motherhood. He gave voice to repressed and caged women, who did not leave their homes or who did not speak freely because that did not correspond to their gender. She was a pioneer woman and is considered one of the most influential women in the history of art and one of the personalities that has marked the feminine identity with the greatest force, intuitively rejecting the vision of the feminine offered by the traditional masculine approach.

The new artistic mural is located on the promenade of the Alberca river, next to one of the works created by Larouch for the art show on the street of Ondara (April 2021). The work on Frida Kahlo is being painted by the artist Paco Chika, who lives in the region, and has been visited this morning by the Mayor of Ondara, José Ramiro, and by the Councilor for Culture and Equality, Raquel Mengual, who have Congratulations to the author for the magnificent result of this work.

This new mural, as a form of expression of urban art, is added to the works recently made framed in the first art show on the street of Ondara (MART 2021), and to the paintings created in the riverbed, thus continuing with the creation of an open-air urban art museum in the town of Ondara, which fill the town center with color and life.
