Compromís Teulada Moraira denounces the failure of the City Council to comply with payment deadlines to suppliers

05 July 2024 - 12: 12

Compromís Teulada Moraira denounces that the municipal government of the Popular Party is systematically failing to comply with the legal payment period of 30 days to its suppliers, as can be seen from the economic report for the first quarter of 2024. «Both the City Council and Teumo are paying with an average of 48 days, although this average is reduced thanks to Teumo, which does meet the deadlines. On the other hand, the town hall's operations are delayed up to 55 days," they explain in a statement from the orange group.

"The delay in payments is causing serious damage to many local companies and self-employed workers who depend on this income to maintain their economic activity," they say from Compromís.

The quarterly delinquency report and the calculation of the Average Payment Period (PMP), prepared by the Municipal Intervention and Treasury, reveal "alarming data" such as that the City Council has exceeded the maximum payment period established by law, placing itself at a PMP of 60,19 days for expenses on current goods and services (day-to-day invoices), and reaching up to 69,13 days for the total invoices pending payment, they indicate in the press release. "These data show a substantial delay that directly affects the financial stability of the providers that provide services for the municipality," they add.

Among the "most alarming" figures, Compromís highlights that of the 399 commercial transactions pending payment, 373 are outside the legal payment period, accumulating a total amount of more than €815.000. "This situation is especially serious for the self-employed and small businesses in Teulada Moraira," they say from the political group.

"The inefficient management of public resources and the lack of adequate financial planning are harming the business fabric and could have serious repercussions on public coffers, since companies have the right to receive interest for late payment of services provided." , they denounce.

From Compromís they point out: «The Popular Party has always sold itself as the party that looks after private businesses, but the reality is this: when the livelihood of those who work for the people depends on them, they get paid late and very late. It is essential that the government takes urgent measures to resolve these delays and comply with the established legal deadlines. Especially, those that have to do with small companies that advance money to provide us with service and see how it can take up to two months to receive payment for the work performed.
