Much has been said about the triumphs of the Popular Party. The majorities in Teulada Moraira, Benissa, Llíber, Murla and Tormos give peace of mind to the popular in these locations. And then there is Calp, with a big question mark perched on the top of the Rock.
The Popular Party has won in the municipality in number of votes and councillors, but Somos Calpe, as a new formation and independent party, has followed on its heels until the last moment. But what about the left? How do you rate your results? And the independent formation Defendamos Calpe?
The reaction of Compromís y Defendamos Calpe to the electoral results
We spoke with the leader and spokesman for Compromís per Calp, Ximo Perles, to take stock of election night, who, although he confesses that they had not planned to make any kind of statement, affirms that his formation is not, at all, happy with the results . «We aspired to be able to grow, both in votes and in representation. We haven't made it, so we're not satisfied."
Perles confirms that since its formation they have already congratulated the Popular Party as the winner, "and, of course, to Ana Sala, because we think that being an independent and newly created candidacy it has obtained a magnificent result ».
They stay with the two councilors they already had in the municipal corporation, Perles himself and Mireia Ripoll, and thus "we will try to develop the electoral program as far as possible, as we have been doing for eight years now."
Let's defend Calpe, for his part, also expected more. "We would be deceiving ourselves if we said that we are satisfied with the electoral result", they affirm and regret not having effectively transmitted "the reality of the municipality, because if they had done so, it is not understandable that they continue to trust the same people who are turning Calpe into a amusement park, with even greater support." Despite their frustrated expectations, the independents will also continue in the municipal corporation with two mayors.
Paco Quiles' team defends that “they have opted for a line of government with hidden pacts, conflicts, internal betrayals, blackmail, nothing transparent, which have been made up with the image of sorrow and false melancholy. Tomorrow the town will continue to have derelict housing estates, parking difficulties, problems with the waste we generate, future water supply risks, and a single, unprofitable sector that rewards only speculators and that the complicity of the existing government has not solved in years. They created the problem, will they fix it?" they wonder.
In its assessment of the electoral results, Defendamos regrets that the outcome of the elections «indicates that a majority in Calpe wants more towers, that heritage continues to be destroyed, completely nullifying opportunities for our young people. Everything to get further and further away from a better future to the detriment of the majority and in favor of the usual four”.
