Compromís denounces that the Diputación de Alicante "underfunds" the towns of the Marina Alta

30 September 2022 - 11: 43

The Compromís group in the Diputación de Alicante has presented a study with which it intends to denounce and demonstrate an "underfunding" in the Marina Alta by the aforementioned Diputación. In this way, they emphasize that if the region depended on the Diputación de València, whose management is in "hands of the left", the towns could receive at least 5,5 million euros more per year.

The Valencian provincial deputy of Xaló, Gerard Fullana, made public in a press conference the under-financing suffered by the towns of the province of Alicante compared to those of the province of Valencia by their respective Provincial Councils. At the event, Fullana was accompanied by the vice president of the Valencia Provincial Council, Maria Josep Amigó.

The Valencian deputy denounced: "The management of the PP at the head of the Provincial government punishes us with fewer resources to invest in our municipalities. Living a few km further south and being governed by the wrong party costs us many millions."

Compromís, in its study, compares town by town how the large investment plans in infrastructure and services for this 2022 have had an economic impact. On the part of the Diputación de Alicante, the Planifica Plan and the Más Cerca, and on the part of the Diputación de Valencia, the Investment Plan and the Municipal Cooperation Plan.

Results of the study

In total figures, the Diputación de Alicante allocates 141 million euros each year to the 47,8 towns in the province, while the Diputación de València invests 134,3 million euros. Taking into account the population weight, each inhabitant of the province of Alicante receives 25,4 euros per year, while those who live in the province of Valencia receive more than double, 51,8 euros.

These figures in the Marina Alta mean that the municipalities have received this year more than 9,7 million from the Diputación. According to the study, with the same number of inhabitants, if the Marina Alta were a region dependent on the Diputación de València, it would have received more than 15,3 million euros. A difference of more than 5,5 million.

A town like Alcalalí, with just over 1.300 inhabitants, has received a total of 297.278 euros. For its part, Bolbaite, a town dependent on the Valencian institution with the same number of inhabitants, has received 341.631,18 euros, a difference of more than 40.000 euros. If the comparison is made between Benissa, which has received 402.316 euros, with more than 11.400 inhabitants, and Picanya, which has the same inhabitants and has received 746.046,61 euros from the Diputación de València, the difference amounts to 270.900,61 euros.

For the spokesman for Compromís, Gerard Fullana: "The president of the Provincial Council forgives 6 million euros each year to large companies with tax rebates that have not benefited the shops in the Marina Alta, he intends to spend more than 100 million on 2 large infrastructures in Alicante and Elche, while the money does not reach the small towns, those that really need it to be able to make a reality and meet the needs of the neighborhood".
