Compromís accuses the Teulada Moraira Government of "abandoning" the public cleaning service to privatize it

Compromís has harshly criticised the Partido Popular in Teulada Moraira after the plenary session approved the start of the procedures "to privatise the street cleaning and waste collection service", managed until now by the public company TEUMO Servicios. According to the party, this decision by the PP government team is a direct consequence of what they describe as "poor political management" that has led to the "collapse" of TEUMO.

Compromís has expressed its total rejection of privatisation, stating that this measure follows the same line as the controversial outsourcing of the cleaning of public buildings, which was already denounced at the time. In a statement, the party has pointed out that during the almost four years of the PP's mandate, the cleaning and rubbish collection service has "suffered a constant deterioration" due to the lack of investment in machinery and personnel, despite the fact that, according to them, the local government has 30 million euros in the bank.

"Llobell's team has had free access to these savings since the suspension of fiscal rules in March 2021, but has not invested in improving essential public services," Compromís denounces. The party has stressed that TEUMO currently operates "with the same three collection trucks that were acquired during Rosa Vila's government," vehicles that they consider "insufficient" to meet the needs of the entire municipality, especially during periods of greater tourist influx.

Furthermore, Compromís criticises the few investments that have been made, such as the new sweepers, which, they say, "spend more time in the workshop than on the streets". The employment situation of TEUMO staff has not been adequate either, according to the party, which claims that in 2023 the workers threatened to strike due to the "terrible working conditions" under the management of councillor Héctor Morales.

"This summer, Teulada i Moraira has suffered the consequences of this neglect more clearly, with dirtier streets than ever," which, according to Compromís, has damaged the tourist image of the municipality and has generated unrest among residents, who are forced to live with the consequences of "the negligence of the governing team."

"The Popular Party has allowed an essential public service to die with its poor management," concludes Compromís, stating that "privatisation is not the solution." According to the party, the key to improving the service is to make "urgent investments" and establish "efficient" management that guarantees both the quality of the service and decent working conditions for workers.
