PSPV-PSOE Teulada Moraira Statement

Last Friday we attended the most surreal plenary session (to say the least) that there has been so far in this short term.

In the same plenary session we were able to hear from the councillor Raul Llobell At one point he said: the drought could not have been foreseen. And the next moment we heard him say: the water problem in Teulada Moraira is NOT new, we have been buying jugs of water for years to be able to drink.

In the words of the mayor of Teulada Moraira: in 2015 we suffered a severe drought that almost evoked restrictions, now in 2024 we have some projects, and we are going to start putting out to tender the works that are expected to be finished in 18 months (they say)...

Mr. Morales, who now declares himself the only owner of the absolute truth, turns out that he was the person most responsible during the 4 years of the last legislature for the entire water policies and the Hidraqua council, as far as we remember, he has done NOTHING to prevent everything that happened. Of course he knows how many m2 leak into the sea from the Moraira desalination plant, and where the failures of the water cycle are in the municipality. HE was the councilor in charge of water management in Teulada Moraira, the least that was expected of the main person in charge was that he knew the data about his work area.

As our spokesperson literally said:

ARE YOU NOT ASHAMED to arrive at 2024 without having done anything?

We have known at least since 2015 that there is a water quality problem in Teulada Moraira. Let us remember that in the summer of 2023, salt was already coming out of our taps.

And what has been done about it? NOTHING.

According to Mayor Raúl Llobell: we had no problems with our aquifers, until this year when the drought has damaged our muscat grape vines.
Are they trying to tell us that if it weren't for the agricultural problem that SERIOUSLY devastates the local table grape and wine fields, which has forced local farmers to ask for help in order to survive, all this would have continued? silently?

The president of the GV has only adopted solutions to alleviate the drought in the FIELDS of our beloved and pampered Moscatell grape, for water for own consumption he has not contributed ANYTHING.

Of course, it has been remembered that the central government of Pedro Sánchez has not signed the emergency decree due to the drought in the Marina Alta. But he has not explained why, being for MANY years the main person in charge of the water department in the Alicante council and its president, he has not provided any solution to prevent the water problem that has plagued the province of Alicante for decades.

The drought cannot be predicted (although we knew climate change had arrived and was going to be catastrophic) but what could be foreseen was the increase in population in the ENTIRE province of Alicante, thanks to the sun and the Mediterranean Sea that welcomes

If we are building massively for and by tourism, how did we intend to provide the drinking water service for domestic use, for filling swimming pools and irrigating gardens that we are bidding for and advertising?

We have been drinking bottled water for years, but the aquifers that supply the town had behaved until now. This year the drought has dried up, pardon the redundancy, the vineyards of our most precious asset, the Muscat of Alexandria Grape, which is why we They have gotten to work. Well, to project and study solutions, which will arrive late and poorly in our lives.

For now we will continue paying for unhealthy water, giving thanks to the fact that our local politicians stopped the desire of the company hired by the Teulada-Benitatxell water consortium for water management, to raise the bill that each of our houses pay by a minimum of 5 €, when it was ALREADY salt water, but yes, minimally drinkable.

As Mayor Raúl Llobell says, let's pray for rain, because there is no water and nothing can be done in the short and medium term. Not even subsidizing citizens for this “extra” outlay buying bottled water for drinking and cooking, which the families of our municipality are having to endure.

It is most regrettable and scandalous that they attract thousands of tourists but do not provide drinking water...not for people, their pets, or flower pots.
The household appliances are also damaged, washing machine, dishwasher etc...who will pay the bill????
