The independent audiovisual production company Col lectiu Mirades will premiere its documentary "L'art de la llata" online and open on its website on Friday, May 12. Later, on May 19, there will also be the online premiere of another of his works, "Barxeres".

The audiovisual piece, directed by José Gayà and produced by Pau Soler and Mirades Cooperativa Valenciana, lasts 50 minutes. The documentary focuses on the long tradition of the llata industry in the municipalities of Gata de Gorgos and Pedreguer. This audiovisual work was presented in 2021 to show the art of braiding palm leaves that is part of the history of the Marina Alta.
Synopsis
There are objects that have always been around us, but who designs and produces them? In some rural towns in the Marina Alta region, the vegetable fiber of the heart of palm has been used for centuries in the crafts of the llata: the art of braiding palm leaves, to make baskets, boats, hats and other utensils for daily use. being the engine of the local economy for decades.
Some older artisans organize to recover their culture and transmit it to the younger ones, preventing the memory of their ancestors from disappearing.
«Barxeres»
The second open premiere will be the fiction short «Barxeres». In case, Col lectiu Mirades, also under the command of Gayà and Soler, present a 20-minute work that shows the life of a family of artisans and farmers in a rural Valencian town during the 40s.
