Calp and Benissa request improvement works in the ravine where the Calpine Local Police died

13 October 2022 - 13: 43

The mayors of Benissa, Arturo Poquet, and Calp, Ana Sala, have jointly sent a letter to the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation to request that the entity carry out the necessary works to improve and guarantee safety at the crossing between the two municipalities through Barranco del Quisi.

The submitted document states that already in the cadastral plans of 1961 the so-called "Quisi path" from Calp to Benissa appears, that path crosses the Quisi ravine that delimits both municipal terms.

Said road has been used with increasing intensity to move between both municipalities, however the area regularly suffers, and with increasing intensity, waterspouts that last September caused the death of a Local Police agent in action. The surface that crosses the ravine is in very poor condition, in addition the episodes of rain are becoming more intense and solutions are required by the competent administrations.

For this reason, both mayors have urgently agreed on the installation, on the Quisi road at the height of the ravine, of danger signs for a speed bump with water, in both directions of travel, as well as two fences that prevent the access of any vehicle each time the Valencian Agency for Security and Emergency Response decrees a pre-emergency warning for yellow level rains, with the local police of both municipalities being responsible for lowering the fence. In this way, the traffic of vehicles in the area will be avoided due to the risk of waterspouts.

However, both mayors consider the need to adopt the appropriate measures to guarantee the safety of people and property in episodes of rain of a non-extraordinary category in our region, for this reason the CHJ is requested to proceed to carry out the works necessary for the improvement and safety of people who cross the Quisi ravine to move between both municipalities.
