Starting on Thursday, Calp will be present for the second time at the Matka Nordic Travel Fair, the most important tourism fair in the Scandinavian market, held in Helsinki. The municipality is participating in this event within the Tourespaña stand, with the aim of positioning itself as an attractive destination throughout the year.

A delegation headed by the Councillor for International Promotion, Marco Bittner, and the Tourism Officer, Sandra Pastor, has travelled to the Finnish capital to represent Calp. The Matka Nordic Travel Fair, recognised as the most influential fair in Northern Europe and the Baltic countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia), is excluding Russia this year due to the conflict with Ukraine. According to statistics, Finland is the European country where the most people travel per inhabitant, which makes it a strategic market.
The main objective of Calp's participation in this edition is to promote the destination outside the summer season, taking advantage of the municipality's favourable weather conditions for much of the year. Given the harsh winters characteristic of northern Europe, Calp seeks to position itself as an ideal option for tourists looking for non-seasonal alternatives.
The Matka Nordic Travel Fair attracts more than 50.000 visitors and 13.000 professionals every year. During the first two days, the fair is dedicated exclusively to industry professionals and the media, while the last two days are open to the general public. The event has established itself as a key meeting point in Northern Europe for companies and visitors interested in tourism.
The Calpe Tourism Department has scheduled a presentation of the destination on one of the central stages of Tourespaña. Under the title “The Essence of Costa Blanca: from Calpe a Coastal Gem to Alcoy an Inland Oasis”, the exhibition, organised in collaboration with the Alcoy Town Council and the Costa Blanca Tourism Board, will highlight Calpe’s possibilities in terms of sports, cultural wealth and historical heritage.
Councillor Marco Bittner said: “We are facing a market that not only avoids inclement weather, but also opts for experiential, family and active travel. The possibility of offering heritage, gastronomy and outdoor sports outside the summer season makes Calp a top-level player at this fair.”
