Calp recovers its municipal radio station after more than a decade of silence

February 13 from 2025 - 10: 35

After more than ten years off the airwaves, Calp City Council has announced the reopening of its municipal radio station, which is returning with a renewed project adapted to new technologies. The former Radio Televisión de Calp, which ceased broadcasting in 2013, is resurfacing, maintaining the license that has remained valid throughout this time.

The renewed project is based on a management model that takes advantage of the City Council's own resources and encourages citizen collaboration. The station will have the participation of municipal staff, volunteers, students and local associations, which will allow to minimize the operating costs and ensure its long-term viability.

Among the most notable innovations, the station will incorporate an automated radio formula system based on supervised Artificial Intelligence. In addition, it will be part of the network of municipal radio stations of the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP), which will facilitate the exchange of content and experiences with other local radio stations.

The mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, has highlighted the City Council's commitment to the community: "We are bringing back this public service with the aim of providing news coverage for the intense cultural, sporting and social activity in Calp." Sala has also stressed that "the radio will be a loudspeaker for our associations, a space where the different productive sectors will be able to have a voice and a direct channel of communication with the citizens."

In its first phase, the station will operate without commercial advertising, focusing on offering quality programming that reflects local reality and encourages citizen participation. The studios will be located on the top floor of City Hall and will broadcast on the 107.4 FM frequency.

Coinciding with World Radio Day, the station has begun its test broadcasts today. During this initial phase, technical adjustments will be made and regular programming will be gradually implemented, the details of which will be announced in the coming weeks.
