Calp recovers Puerto Blanco: this is the planned date for the opening of the marina

February 07 from 2025 - 14: 12

The works to refurbish the Puerto Blanco marina in Calp will be completed in the coming months, with the expectation that the facilities can reopen this summer. However, some of the shops and restaurants will not yet be operational, as they are in the marketing phase.

The concessionaire, Marina PortBlanc, is currently completing the construction of the elevated pedestrian walkway, which will connect the port entrance with the dock and allow visitors to enjoy privileged views of the Calp coastline. The commercial premises are also being built, which will include two restaurants, a beach bar and two other catering establishments located on the walkway. Spaces for nautical activities and the harbour master's offices are also being fitted out, which will be on the ground floor. In addition, the paving of the entire infrastructure is being carried out.

The mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, together with members of the government team, recently visited the works and was able to see first-hand the progress of the work.

The refurbishment works began in September 2023 and included complex maritime works, such as dredging the inner dock. This process required the construction of a dam at the entrance to prevent the entry of water, as well as the use of bilge pumps operating 24 hours a day. In addition, the breakwaters have been reinforced with 20.000 tons of large stones to protect the area from storms, and a gate has been installed at the entrance to reduce the agitation of the water in the dock.

Marina PortBlanc has installed 150 mooring berths with floating pontoons and fingers, built concrete perimeter docks and stabilised the enclave's slopes. The regeneration of Puerto Blanco beach has also allowed the area to gain 700 square metres of coastline.

In total, the investment in the project already exceeds 9 million euros, a figure that has increased by 4 million compared to the initial budget due to delays in the start of the works due to problems with the boundaries between administrations, as well as the complexity of dredging and the reinforcement of the breakwater.

Mayor Ana Sala has highlighted the importance of these improvements for the town: "We couldn't be more satisfied with the progress of these works, as we will soon be able to enjoy this marina after many years of neglect and obstacles. This small enclave will once again shine as it deserves."
