The Calpe Tourism Department participated in a roadshow in Poland to promote the municipality and attract new tourists from this booming emerging market. The event, Spanish Event 2025, was organized by Nekera, one of the leading Polish tour operators, and Turespaña. The event took place in Katowice, Poznan, and Warsaw.
Fifteen Spanish regions and 15 hotel chains participated in the event, and more than 11 of Nekera's top travel agency salespeople from across Poland participated. Travel agents had the opportunity to learn about Calp's tourist attractions and speak directly with representatives from the Department of Tourism and the AR Hotels chain. Specifically, they were able to explore not only Calp's beaches but also the surrounding area.
Also its sports, gastronomic and cultural offerings, since Polish tourists, in addition to sun and beach tourism, like to do activities and enjoy cultural events on their trips.
This is the first time that Calp City Council has participated in this tourism promotion tour with the AR Hotels chain, given the growing importance of the Polish market in recent years. It should be noted that the Valencian Community was the autonomous region with the largest growth in Polish tourist visits in 2024, with a 59 percent increase compared to the previous year. At 18,5 percent, it was the region with the second highest number of Polish visitors last year after the Canary Islands.
It's also worth noting that Alicante Airport is the one that handles the most flights from Poland in all of Spain. Most tourist traffic from Poland to Spain is carried out by scheduled airlines, including low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air.
The Lucca delegation emphasized the importance of maintaining a constant presence at these international events, especially in emerging markets with high growth potential, such as Poland. "Our participation in the Polish roadshow is essential to consolidate our position in this strategic market. The excellent results obtained last year encourage us to persevere in these promotional initiatives," said Marco Bittner, Councilor for International Promotion, adding that the tourism sector is seeking to diversify its traditional source markets and take advantage of the significant increase in air connections with Poland.
Tour operator Nekera, the organizer of this promotional event, currently has contracts with nearly 2.400 travel agent offices and 50 franchise offices. It's worth noting that when booking their vacations, Poles prefer to contact their travel agent directly, and this trend is expected to continue in the coming years.
In 2024, Nekera increased its traffic to Spain by 60% and expects to increase by another 30% in 2025. It offers vacation travel to 150 destinations in 51 countries worldwide. It has a network of 2.600 multi-channel agencies in Poland and operates from 14 Polish airports.
This event has become a must-see in the calendar of important events in the Polish tourism sector, thanks to its wide reach and extensive coverage in foreign media.
The meeting in Warsaw was also attended by the Spanish Ambassador to Poland, Ramiro Fernández Bachiller, and the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Sport in Poland, Piotr Borys.
