Calp City Council has inspected the condition of the solar streetlights installed in various residential areas. This inspection, carried out in collaboration with the contracting company Sociedad Ibérica de Construcciones Eléctricas, SA (SICE), and the lighting manufacturer, was intended to verify their proper functioning.
The inspections were carried out on February 3, 5, 11, and 18, as well as March 3, 10, and 11, 2025. During these days, visual inspections and activation tests of the luminaires using a manufacturer's remote control were carried out. A total of 366 solar streetlights were inspected, of which 20 were stolen and 32 were malfunctioning. Of these, 29 will require further inspection to determine the necessary repair actions. The theft of the 20 streetlights has already been reported.
The City Council has stated that it will continue to monitor the condition of these facilities and will require the concessionaire to carry out the necessary work to ensure the proper functioning of solar lighting in the municipality. In addition, measures will be taken to prevent future acts of vandalism that could affect this infrastructure.
In parallel, municipal services are preparing a new contract for the installation of more streetlights in new areas and the improvement of the current service. This contract will have a tender budget of €150.000 and is part of the Urban Development Lighting Plan, which seeks to improve public lighting in these areas.
The mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, positively assessed the results of the review and highlighted the City Council's commitment to improving public lighting. "It's good news to see the report on the condition of the solar streetlights that the City Council has been installing over the last three years. We will continue to improve. Some streetlights have been stolen, and the corresponding reports have been filed; others need to be repaired because we are within the warranty period, and we are going to ask the concessionaire to repair them as soon as possible. In addition, we are going to invest €150.000 in new public lighting in those residential areas where the service is most precarious. In the coming months, we hope to continue investing in this area. We are never forgetting the residential areas," the mayor stated.
