The Calp City Council approved in its session on Tuesday, January 28, a credit modification to allocate 64.094 euros from a publicity item in the 2024 budget to the recovery of municipalities affected by the DANA. The local government's final objective is to provide the budget of a budget application with 120.000 euros to transfer them to the Generalitat Valenciana for this same purpose.
The 2025 Contracting Plan of the Calp City Council was also approved, in compliance with Law 9/2017 on Public Sector Contracts, which requires programming public contracting activity in a budget year or in multi-year periods. Since November 2024, the different municipal departments have sent the necessary information for the preparation of the plan, which has allowed the Contracting Department to group more than 300 files by concepts and type of contract.
The mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, explained that the document constitutes "the roadmap of the councillors' intentions regarding the contracts that will be carried out in this year."
However, the opposition has expressed its reservations about some of the contracts included in the plan. Paco Quiles, from Defendamos Calpe, has stated that "there are some contracts that we do not agree with, such as the 100.000 euros for the Pop Festival, the 170.000 euros for the lighting contract or the 150.000 euros for the Christmas Fair. There are other needs, such as the local police reserve. In short, taxpayers' money must be managed in the best possible way."
For his part, the spokesman for the Popular Party, Miguel Crespo, has pointed out that "the Plan is a legal obligation and in order to optimise it, it should have been presented before the approval of the budgets. There are contracts that draw our attention, but we are not going to go into detail because this is their political project."
Government spokesman and Councillor for Contracting, Ximo Perles, has defended the work of the Contracting Department and stressed that "this is not the time to question each contract, since this document does not mean that all these projects will be carried out."
