Calp has been present at Fitur 2025 to show the world two of its great cultural and tourist proposals: the emotional Holy Week in Calp and the museum project of the Baños de la Reina, two initiatives that seek to attract visitors and highlight the rich historical and festive heritage of the city.
Holy Week in Calp, a step towards regional recognition
With more than 15 years of history, Calp's Holy Week has established itself as a unique celebration that combines fervour, emotion and tradition in the surroundings of the town's historic centre. The main objective of Calp City Council is to achieve recognition of this festivity as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest.
The effort to achieve this recognition has been promoted by the departments of Tourism and Culture, led by the mayor Ana Sala, the Councillor for Festivals Mariola Mulet, and Mireia Ripoll, Councillor for Tourism, who have worked closely with the Junta Mayor de Cofradías, chaired by Pedro Ortolà.
In addition, the participation of more than 750 members of the brotherhood distributed in five brotherhoods turns the streets of the old town into a totally different setting. The silence, the sound of the traditional saetas and the processions envelop visitors in a magical environment and atmosphere. And as proof of this, at this presentation of Fitur, Calp, under the umbrella of the promotion of the Costa Blanca, projected an emotional video in which the moments of Holy Week 2024 could be relived, inviting attendees to discover this cultural and religious celebration first-hand.
The Queen's Baths: a heritage that is reborn
In addition to Holy Week, Calp also presented the project to turn the Baños de la Reina into a museum, one of the most important archaeological sites in the region. This ambitious project seeks to enhance the value of this historic site, promoting sustainable and cultural tourism that brings visitors closer to the Roman history of Calp.
During her speech, the Councillor for Tourism, Mireia Ripoll, explained that this archaeological site has reopened its doors for visits, following the completion of the first phase of the adaptation works. Ripoll pointed out that the archaeological area has wooden access walkways, which make this space visitable, allowing visitors to see the main archaeological sites: on the one hand, the Domus rotunda with its thermal baths and circular mosaic (4th century) and on the other, the hydraulic complex with the noria and a series of villas (2nd century AD). The Councillor also pointed out that guided tours are organised and from March it will be open to the public.
Pobla d'Ifac
Another of the novelties that Calp has announced at Fitur has been the new image of the Pobla d'Ifac, another important and unique site in the Valencian Community, located on the slope of the Penyal d'Ifac, which will celebrate 2025 years since the excavations began in 20. A task that is being carried out by the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) and in which a medieval archaeological settlement dating back to the XNUMXth century has been discovered.
Ripoll has pointed out that to celebrate this anniversary, an exhibition will be held next June at the House of Culture, and will be open throughout the summer, where visitors will be able to see the pieces found in the recent excavations of this medieval town.
